Design

For nearly a century and a half, Matsuoka's designers have created masterpieces for households and work spaces for clientele who are among the most demanding in the world. They bring to the definition and adornment of space vast experience in both Oriental and Western aesthetics.

All of our designs evince a disciplined understanding of the mastery of the essential elements of scale, proportion, form, texture, color and ergonomics. Masterpieces from the Archival selections, are executed in Celebes ebony, mahogany burl and bird's eye maple, may best be described as "urban sophisticated". The Madoka bedroom collection, meanwhile, expresses traditional Japanese motifs, scaled to Occidental Western proportions, and overlaid in teak, with rosewood and washi accentuation. The WabiSabi/Chigiri collection extends the vocabulary of Japanese styling with superbly crafted pieces in a variety of expressive and rare veneers.

Matsuoka has engaged the creative talent of internationally sought after artists such as Australian designer, Christian Lyon, the American crystal sculptor Stephen Gormley, now residing in Thailand, and famous Florida interior designer, Steven G. They have created distinctly personal collections to articulate their respective visions of the potential for fashion forward furniture design exploiting the rare combination of artisanal skills and media available with Matsuoka. While each designer's collection is a creative tour de force in its own right, the entire international series by Matsuoka exhibits an understanding reflecting a unity of aesthetic and functional purpose, provides a luxury experience as a function of exceptional craft manipulating extraordinary media - visual, tactile and sensory objective elements -, forged into the creation of objects for gracious living.
